Finding Nemothe Musical is a 40 minute, live stage show at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.  It’s based on the 2003 Disney/Pixar animatedfeature, Finding Nemo.  The movie, andthe musical, tells the tale of Marlin, the clown fish and his adventure tryingto find his son Nemo.  Along the way hemeets colorful creatures from across the ocean, including Dory, the regal tangfish that suffers from short-term memory loss, Bruce the great white shark, andCrush the sea turtle.

Finding Nemothe Musical is staged inside the Theater in the Wild (near Dinoland USA) at Disney’sAnimal Kingdom.  This theater previouslyhoused Tarzan Rocks!  The musical was writtenby Tony Award-winning Avenue Q composer Robert Lopez and his wife, KristenAnderson-Lopez.  It was directed by TonyAward-winning Peter Brosius with Michael Curry, the person who designed thepuppets for Disney’s successful stage version of The Lion King, serving asleading puppet and production designer.

The show officiallyopened on January 24th, 2007 alongside The Seas with Nemo and Friends Pavillion at Disney’s Epcot.  Both attractions were in previews since2006.  Nemo was the first non-musicalanimated film that Disney added songs to produce as a stage musical.  Several musical numbers took directinspiration from lines in the film, including “(In The) Big BlueWorld,” “Fish Are Friends, Not Food,” “Just KeepSwimming,” and “Go With the Flow.” In January 2007, a New Yorkstudio recording of the show was released on iTunes, with Lopez andAnderson-Lopez providing the voices for Marlin and Dory, respectively.  In 2009, Finding Nemo – The Musical washonored with a Thea award for Best Live Show from the Themed EntertainmentAssociation.

The musical is engaging and amazing.  It literally comes into the audience and is full of beauty, color, and tons of heart.  On your nexttrip to Walt Disney World, you should schedule time to see Finding Nemo theMusical.  It’s family entertainment at itsDisney best!  It’s a “must sea”attraction!
