Frontierland’s Hoedown Happening

hoedown happening dancersWalking through any one of the lands in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World, and you will use all your senses in the experience.  Walt Disney and the Imagineers were masters at transporting and immersing you into that land’s story.  Recently, we were teleported into Frontierland and walked, or danced, into a story that we became a major part of!

Hoedown Happening Horace Horsecollar and Country Bear WendellFrom the moment you step foot into Frontierland, you are back in the old west, where you are surrounded by a shooting gallery, general stores, and front porches, where you can hitch your horse and grab some grub (but that’s another story!).  The townsfolk are right nice and go out of their way to make you feel at home.  One way they do this is called the Hoedown Happening.

Hoedown Happening Country Bear ShakerThe regular Frontierland background music begins to fade into music better suited for square dancing and the townsfolk start a flash mob style hoedown!

Big Al, Clarabelle the Cow, Horace Horsecollar and  Country Bear Jamboree characters Wendell, Liver Lips, Shaker, and Big Al join other Disney cast members as they invite kids of all ages to join in as they do-si-do, swing their partners, and do the hokey pokey.  It’s fun for the whole family!  The hoedown comes to an end with all the dancers and characters doing a finale dance for guests to the Country Bears’ song “Come Again.”

Because the spirit of the show is about being spontaneous, Hoedown Happening show times are not published in the Magic Kingdom Times Guides, so if you want to catch one, you need so be in Frontierland at just the right time!

So next time you are in Frontierland don’t be surprised if you too are invited to be a part of Hoedown Happening.  Yee haw!

I love Frontierland, it is like being in the Old West. I especially love the characters and going on Tom Sawyers’ Island. Great pictures..
