Le Cellier – Dining Review

A couple weeks ago, Sarah-Irene and I (John) were treated to lunch at Le Cellier by a couple of really amazing friends.  And we’d like to share our experience with you!

We arrived about ½ hour before the restaurant opened (Le Cellier opens at 11:30 am) 30 minutes after World Showcase opened.  We quickly discovered that there was already a waiting list, but we managed to get our names in, and were surprised when we were called within 15 minutes! (You experience may differ)

We had plenty of time for pictures and even got to experience how they open Le Cellier (a rendition of Oh, Canada, the Canadian National Anthem).  And then we were invited in to begin our dining experience.

Le Cellier is French for the cellar, and which makes perfect sense because it’s located in the basement of the Canadian Pavilion in World Showcase.  It’s dark and cool and feel like a cellar.  A cellar that had an amazing kitchen and wine collection!  It’s deep, rich wood and earth tones pulled us down the walkway into what would be an amazing dining experience.

The lunch menu was priced well and allowed us to enjoy many of Le Cellier’s signature tastes.  We received our complimentary assortment of bread sticks which inspired me to order a cup of their legendary cheddar cheese soup for dipping.  If I had a good idea that day, THAT was the one!  It’s made from cheese and Moosehead beer and it is honestly the BEST cheese soup I have ever had!

We had a great server who not only served us well, but was very knowledgeable about Canada and describing the different regions where our lunch items were from, and why they were served in the restaurant.

We did not order any appetizers, but the table beside us highly recommended the tomato stack with caramelized onions, cucumbers, crumbled blue cheese, and Yuzu vinaigrette.  It was amazing!

When you think Le Cellier, one of the first things that come to mind is beef, and this day was no exception.  Sarah ordered a steak salad, which was tremendous and her steak was cooked perfectly.  My steak sandwich was equally as enjoyable.  But the true hit of the afternoon, oddly enough, was the potato salad we had as side dishes.  It was truly memorable for a side dish.

One of our friends had the same steak sandwich as I did, but our other friend ordered the grilled steak burger.  His comment was a wide grin as his eyes rolled back into his head.  It wasn’t too dry and he also had the potato salad side, which did not last long.

We were too stuffed for dessert, but the menu offerings were very tempting.

In a nutshell, Le Cellier is worth the wait.  Reservations are extremely difficult to get, but sometimes, if you are luck, and arrive VERY early, you might get a chance to enjoy one of Disney premier restaurants inside of a theme park.  It’s not the most amazing meal I have ever eaten, but for the price and the location, it’s well worth it.

The food is great, the atmosphere is unique and inviting, and by the end of your meal, you will have a new appreciation for our neighbors to the north!
