The Cabins at Fort Wilderness

Officially opened on November 19, 1971, Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground is one of the original resorts built when Walt Disney World Resort opened.   Located on 600 beautiful acres, Fort Wilderness contains 784 campsites and 409 cabins for guests to enjoy.

The cabins at Disney's Fort Wilderness

The cabins are basically single-wide trailers made over to resemble rustic log cabins from back in the day.  But don’t let them fool you; those 504 square feet can EASILY house a family of 6-8.  There is a master bedroom with a double bed and two bunk beds, as well as a Murphy bed and a really comfy couch!

The living space is open and can comfortably seat a larger group, but you shouldn’t forget the outside deck with picnic table, grill, and lots of deck area to spread out and relax.  Luckily we had a cabin that did not have anyone close behind us and most of our views were just trees and squirrels.  It was very relaxing!

Most all of the cabins were recently refurbished and the most stunning rooms, ironically, are the bathrooms.  They feature tiled floors and really nice counter tops and they are very spacious.  Not to mention the abundance of towels, hand towels, and washcloths.

The bedroom in the cabin at Disney's Fort WildernessThe master bedroom with the double bed and bunk beds also has some more storage space, but it is a little limited.  They also provide and iron and ironing board for you to use.  We thought that it was a nice touch.  When we first walked in we found surprise on our bed…watch the video to see what we found!

One great thing to mention here is that there is always housekeeping help around and available to deliver anything that might have been forgotten for your stay.  They are friendly, helpful, and work tirelessly to keep each cabin neat and clean.  We would STRONGLY suggest leaving a daily tip for these hardworking cast members.  They also have a tendency to leave linens shaped as various animals throughout your cabin, and YES, you may take them home!

The living room in the cabin at Disney's Fort WildernessFort Wilderness is a world unto itself! Its amenities include playgrounds, two heated swimming pools, the Trail’s End Restaurant which serves a breakfast and dinner buffet, along with a lunch menu.  The resort hosts two dinner shows, the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue and Mickey’s Backyard BBQ.  Fort Wilderness also offers several activities such as fishing, horseback riding, and a 2.3 mile paved and sand exercise trail that runs from the petting farm to the Wilderness Lodge.

Transportation is also very easy around the resort.  You can use the many buses that navigate around the entire site, or you can rent a golf cart for your stay, which is SUPER convenient!  Most places can be walked or bicycled to, but you cannot drive to many of the recreation areas, so you have to use alternate transportation. You can also grab a bus that takes you to the main bus stop to jump on Disney Transportation to go to any of the theme or water parks.

The deck on the cabin at Disney's Fort WildernessWe would also encourage you to visit the nightly (FREE) Disney movies, fire pit, and sing-along with Chip and Dale, not to forget the marshmallow roasts.  Smores anyone?  Fort Wilderness also has a great beach and marina area where you can hop aboard a boat to the Magic Kingdom and also watch the Electric Water Pageant at night.

The next time you are planning a vacation to the most Magical Place on Earth, we would highly recommend you stay at one of the cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness.  For reservations you can contact Disney Resort Reservations or contact our friends at Kingdom Magic Vacations for all your Disney vacation needs!

I love the cabins, stayed in them on numerous holidays. Especially like it as I am from the UK you get to mingle with very friendly americans in a relaxed atmosphere.

Do they still do the daily phone messages telling you how many people arrived and left and any news about the resort, e.g. someone in cabin xx had to have an ambulance called.

Pity about trails end stopping the takeaways as you could get a large amount for a small price – compared to the rest of wdw.

That is tremendous! I’m very excited that you had such a great experiences with the Americans you’ve met at Disney! I’m not as familiar with Ft. Wilderness so I’m not really aware of the phone messages and such. I can say from OUR experience, we did not get a phone call for the 3-4 days we were there…Take away from Trails End would be THE BOMB!! Thanks for stopping by and we look forward to seeing you again!

When is your next Disney holiday?
