The Magic of Fort Wilderness

Anything Disney does, they do well. I think this is something that all Disney lovers can agree on. I find that there is a very important element common in all Disney creations that really allow guests to become immersed in the magic. They create this element like no other. What is this element I speak of?

Every destination at the Walt Disney World Resort is based around a theme. It is this “theming”, for me at least, that takes people away to a whimsical place where that little one inside each of us lives and lets us leave the worries and burdens of the real world behind. Disney’s attention to every intricate detail creates a world for that child inside of each and every one us can come out and thoroughly enjoy ourselves!  I believe  this is  that thing we so often refer to as magic.  And that brings me to my favorite themed area of Walt Disney World, Fort Wilderness.

To me, Fort Wilderness is an extension of Frontier Land in the Magic Kingdom. From the wooden rocking chairs carved out of tree branches to the Log cabins.  It’s the ambient music heard in and around the Settlement Trading Post area; it’s every enthusiastic and friendly Cast Member is dressed in traditional early American Settlers clothing. It’s the blacksmith found near the Tri-Circle D Ranch making horse shoes for the horses. It’s  hearing the clipity-clap of horse’s hooves pulling the hayride carriage around the campground.  And as night falls, it’s the cheerful sound of happy children, young AND old, signing while roasting marshmallows around the camp fire permeating the air.

For me, all of these things create an atmosphere of joy, excitement, relaxation and just good old-fashioned fun that I crave when I’m away, and later find contentment when in its presence. I’m thankful for the imagineers and creators of Fort Wilderness for turning, in true Disney fashion, a swamp in the middle of Florida, into a magical world where my imagination can take me back to the Great American Frontier and allow a childhood dream to come true.

This is just my interpretations of the campground that Disney built. I’ll bet yours would be different so see it for yourself. Who knows where your adventure will take you!

What’s your favorite themed resort of Walt Disney World?
